LEGAL ADVOCACY

Safe Shelter's Legal Services Program provides emergency information, support and assistance for victims engaged with the courts through help with civil protection orders, criminal justice advocacy with law enforcement and prosecution including victim’s compensation and victim’s impact statements, advocacy within the child protection system, and referrals to legal representation. Experienced advocates help prepare clients about court systems and accompany them if they need support. The program’s focus is to increase safety for adults and children.

Expanded Legal Services Program:
Safe Shelter maintains a registry of attorneys who are experienced with cases of relationship abuse and agree to work with survivors for a reduced fee if they do not qualify for traditional Legal Aid. We help to connect clients with the best suited and conveniently located attorneys for their needs. Common cases include divorce/custody, post decree modification, and VAWA/U-visa immigration cases. Apply with the legal advocate.

Protection Order Clinic:
We maintain regular office hours at the Longmont Courthouse to assist victims seeking assistance with Protection Orders.
