  • Safe Shelter provides confidential housing for individuals, families, and their pets experiencing domestic violence, elder abuse, or human trafficking. Our shelter welcomes survivors of all genders, sexual orientations, and backgrounds. 

  • Individuals under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, legally married, or legally emancipated to stay at shelter.

  • If you need emergency shelter, call our 24/7 crisis line at 303-772-4422 where we can assist you in English or Spanish. A trained advocate will assess your situation and guide you through the next steps to access shelter services.

  • Yes. Your safety and privacy are our top priorities. The shelter location is confidential, and we have strict policies in place to ensure your information is protected.

  • If possible, bring:

    • Personal identification (e.g., ID, passport, or birth certificates for you and your children)

    • Essential medications

    • Clothes for a few days

    • Important documents (e.g., legal paperwork, bank information)

    • Comfort items like a favorite blanket or toy for children

  • Safe Shelter will provide:

    • Toiletries

    • Bedding

    • Towels

    • Meals – dietary restrictions will be accommodated.

    • Safe Environment: The shelter provides a secure and supportive space for you, your family, and your pets.

    • Private Rooms: Families will have a private room.  Most singles will have a private room.  However, depending on space singles may be required to share a room with another individual who identifies as the same gender.

    • Meals and Supplies: We provide nutritious meals (dietary restriction will be accommodated), toiletries, and other essentials.

    • Advocacy and Support: You’ll have access to advocates who can help with safety planning, legal resources, counseling, and more.

    • Shared Bathrooms: You’ll have access to a Jack and Jill (shared) bathroom, which you will share with one other room.

  • The length of stay varies based on individual needs and circumstances. Advocates will work with you to create a plan, including transitional housing options if needed.

  • Yes, the shelter is ADA compliant.

  • Yes. The shelter is family-friendly and provides resources for children, including counseling, activities, and playrooms. We aim to create a safe and nurturing environment for all family members.

  • We understand how important pets are to survivors. Your pets are welcomed and allowed to stay with you in your room.  Shelter also has a poultry house available for use.

  • Yes. Advocates can help you connect with legal aid for protective orders, custody arrangements, or other legal needs. We also provide resources for financial assistance and employment support.

  • Yes. We offer access to counseling services, support groups, and trauma-informed care to help you heal and rebuild your life.

  • To maintain safety and respect, all residents must follow shelter policies, such as:

    • Keeping the shelter location confidential.

    • Respecting shared spaces and other residents.

    • No cannabis – including for medical use.

    • No drugs or alcohol.

    • Curfew in affect at 10 PM, except Wednesdays and Sundays – the curfew is 6 PM.  Curfew exceptions will be made to accommodate work schedules.

    • No weapons, including pocketknives.   

    Advocates will go over the guidelines with you upon arrival.

  • No, our shelter services are completely free.

  • Before you leave, our advocates will work with you to create a safety plan and connect you with resources for housing, employment, childcare, or other needs to help you transition successfully.

  • Every effort is made to keep your children at their school of origin, including transportation.
